MIXER GRINDER

                     MIXER GRIENDER

Mixer Griender Working = A mixer grinder is essentially a mixer with a grinder combined. They are used to do things like mixing, blending and grinding of different food ingredients. Mixer grinder comes with at least two different jars - one used for wet sauces and another for making dry powders.

PARTS USED IN MIXER.
1) MOTOR= The universal motor is a type of electric motor that can operate on either AC or DC power and uses an electromagnet as its stator to create its magnetic field. It is a commutated series-wound motor where the stator's field coils are connected in series with the rotor windings through a commutator.

2 ) ROTARY SWITCH = Rotary switches move in a circle and can stop in several positions. They are used to control many different circuits with a single switch. ... The rotors are on a spindle and each rotor has an arm projecting outward that can make contact with a terminal when the switch is in a certain position.

3) Carbon Brush = A carbon brush is a sliding contact used to transmit electrical current from a static to a rotating part in a motor or generator, and, as regards DC machines, ensuring a spark-free commutation.
The purpose of carbon brushes is to reduce wear on the commutator, compared with what metal brushes would do. In many cases, carbon brushes can be made long enough that they will not wear out while a device would otherwise be usable; when they do wear out, they can be readily replaced.

4 ) Commutator = Function of commutator: To keep the torque on a DC motor from reversing every time the coil moves through the plane perpendicular to the magnetic field, a split-ring device called a commutator is used to reverse the current at that point.

5) ARMATURE= The main role of an armature is multi purposed. The primary role is to transmit current across the field, therefore generating shaft torque within an active machine otherwise strength in a linear machine. The second role of an armature is to produce an EMF (electromotive force).

6) Damper Rubber= Rubber is used as vibration absorbers, because rubber has a relatively high shear modulus compared to other materials. That means when a rubber material is shear stressed, i.e. stressed parallel to its cross-section, rubber can be stressed more before it becomes permanently deformed.

7) JARS BLADE= There’re different types of blades used in mixer grinders and each has its own specification. Most of the blades are made of stainless steel material to last longer and yet handles the task quickly. You can also change the blade from time to time depending on the usage and should be cleaned properly. Here, in this section, we’ve given different types of blades and its usage for mixing/grinding/juicing. Have a look!
Blade Types                  Applications

1) Shredding disc = To shred cheese, fruits and vegetables
2) Coarse grater = Grate vegetables like carrots, beetroots, chocolate, and creams.
3) Slicing disc =To slice fruits and vegetables
4) Dry grinding blade = Grind dry masala, rice and sugar
5) Wet grinding blade 1 =Blend lentils to paste, make lassi
6) Wet grinding blade 2 = Puree kaju, vegetables and fruits
7) Chutney grinding blade = For preparing chutneys and pickles

8) CIRCUIT BREAKER OR OVERLOAD PROTECTOR = Sometimes, we overfill the jars with ingredients or run the mixer grinder for a longer period of time. In such situations, the overload can cause the risk of motor burning. In order to avoid such issues, manufacturers have introduced overload and overheat protection feature. In cases of overload, this feature acts as circuit breaker to prevent the motor from any further damage.

SAFETY TIPS WHILE USING MIXER GRINDER
Though mixer grinders are safe to use, you should consider certain safety rules to follow to avoid any risks and accidents. We have mentioned some of them below…

1) Do not add hot ingredients into the jar for grinding as it can damage the jar walls and blade components.

2) While grinding batters, purees and smoothies, make sure to add enough liquid or water so that it cannot add more pressure on the motor. This can lead to overheating or burn the motor.

3) Make sure the mixer grinder has proper earthing systems in order to avoid potential accidents like electrical shocks.

4) Before operating the jar, make sure the air inside the jar is escaped.
5) Always turn off the main power supply and power button while loading ingredients in the jar.
6) While operating the appliance, make sure the jar lid is tightly closed.
7) Having additional safety features like stability, slip-proof feet is always important.
8) Following these tips can be helpful in avoiding any potential risks of shocks, appliance failure, and others.
Points To Remember
A mixer grinder for domestic use(550Watt) has 18,000 RPM. For commercial mixer grinders(1000 watt and above) the field of the motor is bigger and the no. of turns in the armature is larger and the total length of it is also bigger and has a RPM of 24,000 to 30,000 RPM
Some Commonly Faced Mixer Grinder Problems, And How to Fix Them at Home?

Due to regular wear and tear, it is common to face some problems like stuck buttons and others. These issues can be resolved at home without professional help. We have mentioned the common problems and methods to resolve them.
1. Leakage
This is the most common problems of a mixer grinder. In order to deal with leakage, first thing is to check the blade assembly and secure it tightly. Another common reason for leakage is damaged rubber gasket. You can easily replace the rubber gasket yourself. They are available in local hardware stores. Leakage can also be caused due to cuts or cracks in the jar. If this is the case, then replace the jar. You can purchase them in authorized dealer shop.
2. Stuck Buttons
Stuck buttons is another common problem experienced with mixer grinder. This situation occurs when liquid or food ingredients enter in-between the button due to spillage. For correcting this problem, first unplug the machine and perform thorough cleaning. Some models present in the market come with the option of removing the face of buttons which makes it easy to clean the spaces in-between the buttons. For cleaning, an old toothbrush would be good enough.
3. Improper Grinding or Slow Rotating Blades
This is one of the most important common mixer grinder problems. It grinding foods or liquids take a long time, then it can be very irritating. In most of the situations, this issue is caused when food particles get clogged in the between the blades or its assembling parts. If this is the case, then properly disassemble the blades and soak them in warm and soapy water. Leave it for 10 minutes and scrub the parts carefully. Now assemble the blade parts of mixer grinder and turn on the appliance. Check if the blades run faster than before.
4. Damaged Bearing
If the blades are not rotating, then it can be due to damaged bearings. In some situations, water or liquid can leak into the coupling mechanism, reaching the bearing of the mixer. The water corrodes the metallic bearing and damage them to an extent where the blade can no longer rotate. This ultimately makes the whole mixer grinder useless.
In order to solve this problem, first resort is to turn the mixer blades manually in the opposite direction. If this solution doesn’t work, then add a few drops of oil (coconut, mustard or any other) on the coupling mechanism. Now place the jar upside down for a few minutes. Now try to rotate the blades manually for couple of times. Again keep the jar aside for 10 minutes.  Attach the jar to mixer unit and run it for a test. If the blades start rotating without any issues, then the problem is fixed.
5. Broken Motor Coupler
Another reason for the mixer blades not working can be broken motor coupler. Reason for this issue can be overloading, poor quality material of the coupler and if the appliance is not used for a longer period of time. The solution for this issue is replacing the motor coupler. Well, for this you may require professional help.
For preventing such common issues later, you should clean the blades, jar and other parts on a regular basis. A mixer grinder is one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. We are very much dependent on this appliance which makes it pretty difficult to handle it doesn’t work properly. Now that you know some common problems and methods to fix them, you can easily fix the appliance at home. If none of them are methods are working, then consult a professional or dealer.

How to Take Care of a Mixer Grinder?

The best way to take care of your mixer grinder is to follow some simple rules that include – not overfilling the jars, avoid grinding hot food, not running the appliance for more than 5 minutes continuously. There are some other tips to take care as well… We have mentioned them below for your convenience…

1)Once you finished the grinding job, add some water and turn it on. The water will remove all the batter in the cranks. This makes the whole cleaning job easier as well. This also prevents salt water or other liquids from seeping into the mixer blades and further.
2)After cleaning the jars, place the jar upside until it dries. This will prevent the water from leaking into the blades and other mechanisms
3)Before cleaning the mixer grinder, first pull out the electrical plug. Using a damp cloth, wipe the motor base. And later wipe with a dry cloth.
4)Avoid spraying detergent based liquids and chemical cleaning solutions on the mixer motor base. Only plain water is sufficient and safe enough.
Why does mixer grinder stop suddenly from working?
When the mixer grinder becomes too hot or overheated, the fail switch will cut off the power supply for safety purposes. If this happens, the first thing is to remove the power cord out of the socket. Now turn the mixer grinder upside down. Every mixer grinder comes with a red overload safety switch below it. Press that button and wait for a few minutes to let it cool down completely.
Once the mixer grinder cools down completely, the switch will automatically turn on. If you want to use the appliance immediately, then operate it without any load for about 30 seconds. This lets the motor to cool down.
Overloading actually happens when you load too much and run it at high speed for a long time. To avoid this problem, reduce the ingredients by half. If the grinding material is too thick, then add some water to reduce the pressure over the motor.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:
